The Archive offers a display of 40-plus years of cultural history. Who did what, why, when and to what effect. More than an absorbing archive: also a do-it-yourself kit to contribute to future cultural initiatives; covering events created by the Black-E as well as the work of visiting artists.

  The Circus of Liberty : The Script  Once upon a time, there was a small village in which everyone wore a heart pinned on their chest; and where everyone wore a hat with long, long plaits of many different colours dangling down. The village was called The Village of Hearts and Plaits.

This Seminar was not run by the Black-E but it is included in the Archive a) because of Bill's involvement  and b) because the Archive aims to include work associated with Black dance which links to work done at the Black-E  The Seminar was run by  IRIE! Ed Murphy friend, supporter, volunteer and Chair of the Trustees from  around 1996 to his death in October 2016. As can be seen from the obituary below much of Ed's life took place in meetings and offices but reviewing our Photographic Archive it can be seen that he took part in or attended numerous events at the Blackie, particularly in the days when his work load was less.

The Idea:   Decorate the building site for Christmas.

The Idea was simple - to create a Flower Show on site.  The idea was put to Liverpool City Council's  Department of Recreation and Open Spaces who agreed to do it.

The Idea.  This installation was created  by Robin Riley; (his second installation for Building Sight); the following is his description of it. "Ghost Riders In The Sky (title of song) was used as sound for the event.

This was the first  of the Building site installations. It was a work by performance artists Shirley Cameron and Roland Miller. The Idea  Shirley, Roland and their twin babies would 'live'  on the building site for the day.

The Idea.  Sailing is about imagination. Combine the unfinished building and figures sailing in a mesh of steel girders. Could they go through the walls and into space? Sailing was Robin Riley's second contribution to Building Sight.  It was installed by Robin and his son Simon. The above is Robin's description of the installation.
