Funmi Adewole

Funmi Adewole -trusteeFunmi is a lecturer, writer, poet, storyteller and performer who works in professional, educational and community settings. She now lectures in Britain and internationally on social dance in theatrical practice, Intercultural Choreography and contemporary African dance and is a Ph.D. candidate at De Montfort University.

She started performing with youth dance companies whilst in University in Nigeria and began to perform professionally on moving to England in 1994. She has a B.A in Modern European Languages from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, a Professional Certificate in Education from Christchurch University, Canterbury, and holds an M.A in Postcolonial Studies from Goldsmiths College, London. Her association with the Black–E began after meeting Bill Harpe in 1995, who introduced her to the Black-E’s Archive and information on dance and performance by black artists, which she used in research projects and fund raising.
