The Birds Works came out of The Flower Works, originally a Gallery Game played in staff games sessions and then played with young people in playschemes both at the Blackie and on tour.

Dotto (originally titled ‘Thirty Something’ after a TV series exploring the lives of 30 year olds) was a game invented to celebrate our 3rd decade 1998-2008.  We started playing it in 1998 and played on until we left the building for redevelopment in 2003

The Idea:  African Connections was a project which explored the links between traditional African dances and contemporary social dances.  It led to the creation and exhibition of 24 Batiks plus the creation of 24 flick books illustrating the chosen dances..

The Idea:  To create a coloumn of Helium filled white balloons which went from the bottom to the top of the building site. This would hopefully sway in the wind which at this stage of rebuilding swept through the site. This turned out to be the first  of three installations involving balloons.

This event was created by DDart, a theatre group from Leeds Polytechnic Fine Art Department which included Jack Whirlpool and J.E.Latham.  We know this because the poster for the event and the publicity material says so.  We have no other paperwork or any idea of what the event was about.  The other thing we have are photographs and these are below.

This exhibition was aimed towards reflecting individual interpretations, through the medium of textiles, of the concept of a family, whether it be in the form of a visual metaphor as with Liz Pembroke’s work or perhaps, more simply, as a response to the presence of a particular member of a family, as with Betty Myerscough. Gifts for a City was The Blackies' fourth participatory exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. The ideas/inspirations behind the show were public sculptures, the Blackies' summer theatre 'Gifts to a City' and to get people thinking about how they would like their city to be.

Inferno and Room of Roots were the result of the Blackie working with two postgraduate students (Jenny Carroll and Judith Blundell) from Theatre Design at the Slade College of Art and two dancers (Di Davies and Dennis Greenwood) from the London School of Contemporary Dance.
