In Alfred Hitchcock's films, what he called the MacGuffin  -  such as the secret papers which the spies are after  -     is the engine which sets the story in motion.  But in terms of the drama, the actual nature of the MacGuffin is of no importance whatsoever.

Making The Clothes When young people think of the arts, fashion and music come tops. In line with this enthusiasm the Summer Playscheme of 1972 culminated in a Fashion Show and Disco.  The playscheme ran for six weeks from 24th July to 2nd September.

The Idea The summer of 1983 saw a variation - but in some ways also a continuation - on that year’s Easter Play Scheme theme of wool and weaving. The summer’s Play Scheme took the theme of spiders and their own weaving techniques. The theme proved to be very fruitful with a total of over 4,000 attendances over 54 sessions and some truly innovative takes on the spider theme.

Down To Earth was originally created as a way of providing the basis for debate and creative activities for the Second Merseyside Gathering of Community Artists February 1978.  It was staged as a day-long game and took place in an empty 3-storey warehouse in the centre of Liverpool

Below major problems in farming are followed by solutions both for the farmers and for the community artists.     PROBLEM YOU HAVE BURNT OFF THE FOREST COVER ON YOUR MOUNTAIN LAND TO PLANT CROPS, YOUR SOIL IS NOW BEING WASHED AWAY DOWN THE SLOPE BY HEAVY RAINFALL, YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE LAND TO PRESERVE THE SOIL, AND STILL MAKE A PROFIT

The Idea : Our 1987 Summer Tour (part of Merseyside Play Action's Artists on Playschemes Initiative) was based on the participatory exhibition 'Eat Your Art Out' held at the Bede Gallery Jarrow in February 1987.
